Wisconsin Dairy Queen Puts Up ‘Politically Incorrect’ Sign, Owner Stands By His Decision

A note displayed on the front window of a Dairy Queen restaurant in Kewaskum, Wisconsin, has garnered significant attention and is currently trending online. The sign proudly declares the restaurant’s politically incorrect stance, highlighting its frequent use of holiday greetings such as “Merry Christmas,” “Happy Easter,” and “God Bless America.” It also shows support for veterans by offering free sundaes on Veterans Day and displaying the US flag along with words of gratitude for their military service.

Kevin Scheunemann, the owner of the restaurant, defended the sign, explaining that it was put up almost four years ago to openly express his and his staff’s dedication to serving God and the country. Scheunemann said he posted the notice in response to a customer complaint about Christian music being played in the restaurant. Since then, the sign has not caused any further issues.

The sign recently gained renewed attention after a visitor from Oregon shared a photo of it on Facebook, expressing concerns about the message’s perceived exclusivity. The initial post received substantial attention before it was taken down.

Opinions on the sign are divided. Some people agree with its message, while others are offended by the person who shared the photo and voiced their concerns. Local business owners, however, support Scheunemann’s decision to display the sign, asserting that customers are free to leave if they disagree with its sentiments.

Residents of Kewaskum, a small town, seem to view the sign as a straightforward expression of the owner’s beliefs. Dairy Queen officially stated that Scheunemann’s approach does not represent the corporation’s stance, emphasizing that the sign reflects the views of this individual owner. The company also reiterated that all franchisees and employees are expected to treat customers with respect and decency, regardless of their religious beliefs.
